Our customer operating in the Ferrier area came to us seeking help with under performing Cardium water-injection wells. To identify the best solution, we performed our own lab analysis and found both acid soluble and insoluble forms of iron in the wellbore samples. Our conclusion: iron and calcium-based solids were causing the damage to the wells.
Formation damage is common in water injection wells. The most common types of damage include scale precipitation, oil and solid carry over, and bacteria damage. Trican had to determine what was causing the formation damage, so we could recommend the best solution.
Trican provided a tailor-made solution and employed a newly developed product called Pyr X–1™ to alleviate the damage to the wells.
Pyr X-1 is specifically formulated to treat hard scales such as iron polysulfide and other acid insoluble iron based scale. Trican’s recommended treatment – Pyr X-1 with hydrochloric acid - was applied in three of the customer’s water injection wells. The combination of Hydrochloric acid and Pyr X-1 would treat both the iron and calcium-based scale detected in the samples.
Following the treatment, improved injection rates were observed in all wells. The combination was an effective remediation - it saved time, while leaving the wellbore clean of solids.
